Going bald during lockdown? Everything you need to know!

Don’t we all love seeing confident people who just don’t care about people’s opinion and just go for things that they always wanted?
It’s absolutely stunning what the lockdown does to us in many ways. Starting from self-reflection, our role in the society, ending with doing all the things we’ve never had the courage for. A shaved head seems to be the new “quarantine haircut” based on how many people did it during the lockdown and we’re absolutely here for it!

Historically, many diverse cultures practised and still practise head shaving for different reasons. Even though the same thing was practised differently from culture to culture and for various grounds, there was one idea that was common for most of these cultures; less of hair, more of a man!

Now back to our times, people seem to consider the idea of shaving their head during the lockdown more than ever. Whether it’s a sign of going back to our roots, a spiritual sign of new beginnings, or just boredom, the fact is that more and more people are thinking about shaving their heads, and we are totally loving it! In fact, “Shaved Head” has become one of the most often used words in the search engines and social media channels during the coronavirus outbreak. The popularity of this and many other similar keywords have jumped from bottom to the top since thousands of people are thinking of going bald while being in compulsory isolation and want to know everything about head shaving.

If you want to get your “quarantine haircut” too, read this article to reveal:

Why do people shave their heads in the lockdown?

Day by day, more and more people decide on shaving their heads while being in quarantine due to the situation caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19). The reasons are different: barbershops and hair salons continue to be closed, no one leaves their houses and people are bored. Some people simply want to experiment with their haircut, others are just curious about what they would look like bald and the lockdown is a perfect opportunity to find it out since no one would see the change for a few more weeks. Also, many people being unable to cut their hair by themselves, made the decision to go for a shaved head look since it’s much easier to maintain.

Thousands of men and women shared their newly shaved head look via social media channels.

Jason Hankins from the University of Houston went bald and tweeted on the 6th of April:

“Social distancing got me so bored  I shaved my head lol”.

This girl shaved her hair on the 23rd day of the quarantine:

“Day 23 of quarantine and I finally shaved my head”.

A Hawaiian man has recently shown off his new shaved head look in Twitter and TikTok:

“I shaved my head because I was bored. Now I look like a freaking manapua😂”

*Manapua - Hawaiian food stuffed with meat.

Another, quite praiseworthy and humane campaign has started on Instagram lately. People are shaving their heads as a part of a charity, trying to raise money to show their support and respect for the generous work the NHS (National Health Service) does during the coronavirus pandemic.

Alex Davis, from Bristol, an England Rugby Sevens player shaved his head to raise money through nationwide head shave campaign to support the NHS:

The government is telling us all to stay at home unless essential while they tackle this ongoing and unpredictable emergency.

Our amazing NHS workers are on the front line of this tragic pandemic, risking their own health each and every day to save lives.

To show our support for the wonderful work the NHS continue to do during the Coronavirus crisis, we aim to raise as much money as possible through a nationwide head shave @instagram campaign.

We recognise this is a difficult time for the whole nation, worrying about the health of loved ones and personal finances, but every little counts so please donate what you can. Together, the funds we raise could contribute towards protective clothing for nurses and doctors, more hospital beds or equipment to support those who are suffering.

Lose a little but give a lot. Donation link in my profile.”

How to tell if you look good bald? A super-easy 10-second test

If you are among the curious ones and consider the new haircut, here’s a lifehack to find out if bald will suit you. One of the easiest ways to know whether you will look good with a shaved head is a measurement discovered by John Frieda. After a long research, she found out which jawbone looks better with short hair or with a bald head. For this measurement, you will need a mirror, a ruler and a pencil.

    Let’s start!

    1. Stand in front of the mirror so that you can see the side of your face
    2. Hold the pencil horizontally under your chin
    3. Put the ruler vertically under your ear
    4. Now measure the distance from your ear to pencil

That’s it! If the distance between your ear and the pencil is less than 2.25 inches, you can go for your quarantine haircut without any doubt, you’ll rock it!

    The Bottom Line

Being deprived of going to the barber’s once or twice in a month as we were used to, most of us will eventually have that intractable messy hair problem and this is a matter of time.

Whether you like it or not, you will finally have to make the decision: either shave your hair off and make your life much easier or experiment with your hair trying various haircuts.

For this and many other reasons mentioned above, the number of men and women shaving their heads in quarantine is continually growing! And this is how a shaved head is becoming or has already become the coronavirus pandemic symbol.

Many of us have always had the desire to know what we would look like with a shaved head and the lockdown just gave a convenient excuse to do it!
